Annapurna Base Camp Trek

After Mt Everest Base Camp, we planned to trek Annapurna BC at an altitude of 4130 meters (13,550 feet) . There are multiple routes to ABC but we, team of 4 trekkers, decided to trek via Poon hill.

Day 0 – Arrive to Kathmandu

After we landed in Tribhuvan International Airport, the representative from Prakruthi Outdoors was awaiting for us with the placard. We straightaway went to the hotel and relaxed for some time. Evening we have visited famous Pashupathi Nath temple. A representative accompanied us all along the way. At night we introduced to our guide Mr. Tang Sharpa who briefed us the itinerary and DO’s and DON’T’s

Day 1 – Arrive Pokhara from Kathmandu

We boarded the tourist bus at sharp 7AM at Sorhakhutte along with our guide. It’s approximately 15 minutes’ walk from Thamel area. There are many tourist buses (Deluxe, super deluxe and Sofa seat buses) starts to Pokhara at 7AM. Also there are many public transport facility. It was a bumpy drive as the road widening work was carrying out. The lunch stop was at Maleku which is just next to the Trishuli river. We reached Pokhara at 4:30 PM. The taxi was waiting for us and taken us to the Splendid View hotel. We relaxed for some time. Rest of the day we spent time walking along the banks of the beautiful Phewa lake. I did like Pokhara more than Kathmandu which is clean and beautiful. The view from the hotel is awesome as we could see the various mountain ranges including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Fishtail.

Day 2 – Drive to Nayapul and trek to Upper Ulleri

After breakfast, we started our journey to Nayapul by a jeep along with our guide and porters. It’s almost 1.5 Hrs drive. From Nayapul the rest of the day is trek to upper part of Ulleri. It’s almost uphill. We witnessed couple of beautiful waterfalls on the way.

Duration of trek – 4 Hrs

Day 3 – Trek to Ghorapani (Ghodapani)

After breakfast we started our trek to Ghorapani at 7:30 AM. It was sunny day and I enjoyed the beautiful landscapes. The first 2 hours is uphill. Reached Ghorapani at 4PM. The view from the hotel is amazing. The vistas will throb my heart and eyes.

Day 4 – Trek to Poon hill and to Tadapani to Hiunchuli

Woke up in the morning at 4:30 AM and freshened up. Started early morning hike at 5 AM. There are steps from Ghorapani to Poonhill top. It took almost 45 minutes to reach the top. The sun raise sighting from the view is simply superb. We can see the peaks of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri range and Fish Tail Mountains. After the Poonhll, we were back to hotel. Had breakfast and started trekking towards Tadapani. Reached Tadapani at 4PM and rested for the day.

Overnight stay – Rainbow lodge, Hiunchuli

Duration of trek – 6 Hrs

Day 5 – Trek to Upper Sinuwa

After breakfast, started outward trek at 8AM. Reached Upper Sinuwa crossing Chhomrong and Lower Sinuwa.

Overnight stay – Sinuwa lodge, Upper Sinuwa

Duration of trek – 8 Hrs

Day 6 – Trek to Deurali

After breakfast, we started trekking and crossed Bamboo, Dovan and Himalaya before reaching Deurali. The best part of this stretch is the amazing views. The snow-capped mountains throb the sight.

Overnight stay – Hotel view point, Deurali

Duration of trek – 8 Hrs

Day 7 – Trek to Machapuchare Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp

The best part of the trek comes this day. From Deurali one has to cross the river in a zig zag way between the valleys. Amazing snow-capped mountains makes us amuse. We reached Machapuchare base camp at 12PM. Relaxed for some time with a tea and geared up to the final destination. Another 2 hrs uphill trek takes to the much-awaited ABC. The 360 degree view from here is so beautiful. It was started snowing heavily overnight and whole premise covered with heavy snow.

Overnight stay – Annapurna guest house, Mt Annapurna Base Camp

Duration of trek – 5 Hrs

Morning we woke up at 5:30AM to witness the beautiful sunraise vistas. Its simply awesome. We enjoyed the beauty although we were shivering because of freezing cold.

 

 

Day 8 – Trek to Lower Sinuwa

Today is the longest trek. After witnessing beautiful sunrise view at ABC, after breakfast, we started our return trek at 8AM. As it was snowed heavily, the descent from ABC to Machapuchare was a challenge. Crossing Deurali, Himalaya, Dovan and Bamboo, we reached Lower Sinuwa around 5PM

Overnight stay – Real Sinuwa lodge, Lower Sinuwa

Duration of trek – 8 Hrs

Day 9 – Trek to Chhomrong and Jinu Danda Hot springs and drive back to Pokhara

Started our trek at 7:30AM. Reached Jinu Danda at 10:30AM via Chhomrong. From there 30 minutes trek to hot springs in the banks of river Modi. As we have tired, relaxed in the natural hot springs.

From Jinu Danda, crossing the long bridge, we did trek to Kumi and from there taken jeep drive to Pokhara.

Overnight stay – Splendid view hotel, Pokhara

Duration of trek – 6 Hrs

Day 10 – Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Morning boarded the tourist bus at 7AM and reached Kathmandu at 5PM.

Overnight Stay – Hotel Everest Nepal, Kathmandu

Key points

  • WiFi is available all the way except in Deurali and Mt ABC
  • Charging is available all the way except in Deurali and Mt ABC
  • WiFi – There are charges. WiFi is around NPR 200 to 300. Mobile charging is free in most of the lodges
  • Hot shower can be availed in all lodges except in Mt ABC
  • Mobile network connectivity is available all along except in Deurali and Mt ABC area
  • Water bottles available till Sinuwa. From there plastic is banned. No water bottles available thereafter. However filtered water / hot water available. The cost will be around NPR 150 / Litre
